Set in 1980s Zambia, "Maria Kristu: The Buumba Story" follows Buumba, a sixteen-year-old girl raised within the strict confines of the Maria Kristu Church. As she matures, Buumba becomes increasingly aware of the oppressive doctrines that govern her life and the lives of other women in her community. Determined to seek freedom and challenge the status quo, she embarks on a courageous journey that pits her against deeply entrenched patriarchal traditions, risking ostracization and personal peril in her pursuit of autonomy and equality.
