Amateur home movie of Trans Sahara expedition by tourists in 1971 through Algeria and Republic of Niger, North Africa.

The Land Rover expedition team are parked at a village in the Sahara Desert of Niger. The village has mud brick walls and a fort like appearance, possibly Bilma. Women and children filmed in the village. Berber or Tuareg community. Some of the young boys in blue robes have partially shaved heads. High walls surrounding the town. Women carrying water on their heads. Camels are being loaded with goods, including a live goat which is strapped to a camel’s back. Donkeys and cattle. The heavily laden camel train departs. A salt caravan. Square cut water filled holes in the rocks for salt production. Stacks of round salt blocks and long cone shaped blocks lying in the sun. Camels sitting on the ground. Men are wrapping the salt cones in woven baskets for strapping to the camels.
