The Martyrs of Uganda were a group of 45 young Christian converts—22 Catholics and 23 Anglicans—who were executed between 1885 and 1887 in the Kingdom of Buganda (present-day Uganda) under the rule of King Mwanga II. These martyrs were killed for their faith, refusing to renounce Christianity or submit to immoral demands. Their courage and steadfastness are celebrated as a powerful testimony of faith, and they are honored annually on June 3rd, known as Martyrs' Day, especially at the Namugongo Shrine, which has become a major pilgrimage site.
