Sal, Cabo Verde Short Travel Film 4K | Sony a6300
This is a short film about the island sal in Cabo (Cape) Verde. Most people visit Sal to relax, no stress is what the local citizens say all the time. Besides relaxing, there is just so much more to see and do. On the second day we visited the nearest town Santa Maria. Here we met Allesandro who showed us his shop and some typical places in the city.
At the Mercado Municipal we entered a local shop and were interested in the handcrafted items in the 'Blue Paradise Shop'. There are some other shops and a market. It is small but worth a visit.
Gilson Carlos, a friend of Allesandro, showed us around the whole island. We also visited a few places not a lot of tourists know about. Like the 'Cave of Love' at the Buracona, also the place where the Blue Eye is located. Unfortunately the sun wasn't shining that much and couldn't see a lot of it. If that's the case, that cave is a great second option.
Of course every island has an oppesite side. In the Favela, where the people with no income live, you can see the other side of the island. It's sad but still a reality for a lot of people on the island with a total population of 30,000 people.
This trip definitely hadn't been as it was without the help of Allesandro and Gilson. I would like to thank them again. More information about them and the island can be found below.
*About the island:*
Sal – Buracona
A famous and fantastic natural swimming pool in an area of lava rock coast with a beautiful ocean view. One part is called the Blue Eye. This is a gap in the rock that reaches down the ocean floor which is filled with minerals. As the sun hits the water inside the hole, the water turns into intense turquoise blue. This is of a rare beauty. Besides, the spot has underwater communication with the ocean and therefore it is also a very interesting diving spot. Swimming can be done in the natural lava pool connected to the Blue Eye. To avoid many other visitors go early to this spot on Sal.
It is exciting to swim in a natural swimming pool. It is in general a pool mainly separated from the sea with rocks which makes the lagoons much warmer and more pleasant to dive in. The inviting pools are surrounded by spectacular scenery.
Sal – Salt crater of Pedra de Luma
The salt crater is created from natural filtration in volcanic rock. The salt pounds are located inside a low volcano crater, though it is not longer active. The salt lakes have all kind of beautiful colors from pink to green depending of their stage. You can go swim in the salt lakes that are more than 25 times more salt than the ocean and therefore you will float on top of the water. You will float as you swim in one of saltiest waters in the world. Just like in the Dead See, it is a great experience you should not miss if you are visiting the Cape Verde Islands. For a superb view of the area it is recommended to climb to the top of the crater.
