United Nations - After decades of civil war, South Sudan gained independence and became the world's newest country. But legacies of the conflict live on.
Landmines and unexploded bombs still contaminate large tracts of land, threatening the lives and livelihoods of South Sudanese civilians.
This film tells the story of Nancy Sunday, the first Minewolf operator in South Sudan. A Minewolf is an armoured vehicle that tills land in order to crush or detonate landmines that may be buried beneath the surface. With support from UNMAS, the NGO Norwegian People's Aid deploys Minewolves across South Sudan.

The war in South Sudan began in murky circumstances in mid-December, when tribal factions within the country's army, the SPLA, began fighting each other in the center of the capital, Juba. The SPLA quickly fractured into two camps: an insurgency drawn from members of former vice president Riek Machar's Nuer tribe and troops who remained loyal to President Salva Kiir, of the Dinka tribe. Both sides have been accused of committing gross human rights abuses during the conflict. VICE News arrived in Juba and found the army desperate to dispel rumors that rebels were advancing on the capital. Soldiers were keen to take our correspondents on a trip with them into the bush to recapture the strategic city of Bor from the rebels... only the raid didn't turn out quite as they had expected.

NGOs have been attacked, causing them to flee the region. Those that suffer the most are the destitute and the desperate, who so needed the aid that has just been pushed out.

Lost Boy Found (2010): Valentino Deng's courageous escape from the South Sudanese War has inspired a best-selling novel, and won him celebrity. He's now using the proceeds from the novel to help rebuild his ailing homeland. Subscribe to journeyman for daily uploads: http://www.youtube.com/subscri....ption_center?add_use

"I could see the soldiers, kneeling in the grass of the riverbank, shooting at us as we crossed. I turned to see a boy in the jaws of a crocodile." It's a small insight into the ordeal that Valentino and thousands of other children experienced as they marched across the desert for over a thousand kilometres.

Desperately fleeing a brutal war, many like Valentino lost their families along the way. He left for the States, where he met award-winning author Dave Eggert, who wanted to tell his story. Returning to his home town with the profits from the novel, Valentino was proud to build the region's first Secondary School: "Last year there was no road like this and you see people going to school, all schools were closed during the war".

Queuing up excitedly for school, and hounding their volunteer teachers for information even in break time, the children in this small village in Marial Bal represent a new hope for Sudan. "We fought for more than 50 years. Things are going to change through education."

We follow four young girls who have been married as children, and they suffer consequences such as missing out on school and normal childhood activities, falling pregnant, and the associated detrimental health impacts.

The film “changes the picture” to present the same girls in alternative futures by going to school, playing with friends, and having meaningful employment. The film is part of an upcoming campaign in South Sudan to support the end of child marriage and protect the rights of children in the Country.
