[Tactical Transit – Addressing Mobility Challenges Through Participatory Co-Creation with Local Communities]
Tactical Transit is a new approach to mobility improvement, co-created with local communities. It builds upon the concept of Tactical Urbanism, which connects short-term actions to long-term improvements of public spaces, applying it specifically to address mobility issues in a sustainable way with local communities.
This Tactical Transit initiative brought together university students from two institutions in Kinshasa (ISAU and ABA), local communities, transport associations, and government agencies led by the Urban Development Unit in Kinshasa City (CDUK). As Kinshasa faces challenges in raising road users’ awareness of traffic safety, the participants jointly designed and painted new bus shelters with traffic safety awareness messages. Through this collaborative effort, a new bus shelter was co-created, promoting safer and more orderly public transport use while delivering traffic safety messages to all road users.
This pilot initiative is part of the JICA's (Japan International Cooperation Agency) technical cooperation project titled "Project for Capacity Development for Urban Transport Master Plan Implementation in Kinshasa." Following the first Tactical Urbanism trial in the country under this project in 2024, this Tactical Transit initiative is a pioneering case within JICA’s technical cooperation. It is expected that this approach, which promotes community empowerment through the mobility improvement process, will be expanded to other districts of Kinshasa, as well as to other cities in the DRC and neighboring countries.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a vast, mineral rich country the size of Western Europe.
Alastair Leithead takes an epic journey from the Atlantic Ocean to the far reaches of the Congo river to explore how history has shaped the Congo of today and uncover the lesser told stories of this beautiful, if troubled country.
In the largest rainforest outside of the Amazon he comes face to face with its gorillas and hunts with pygmies, he travels into the heart of the Ebola outbreak with United Nations peacekeepers, and explores the cobalt mines which will drive our electric cars of the future.

On 23 November 1996, Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961 is forced to ditch after running out of fuel. The aircraft breaks up as the wings hit the water, killing 125 people. The aircraft had been hijacked and ran out of fuel because the hijackers did not believe the pilot's insistence that there was not enough fuel aboard to make it to the hijackers' planned destination, Australia.

When Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961 departed from Addis Ababa on November 23, 1996, it was carrying 163 passengers and 12 crew members. Among them were an American diplomat, a legendary news cameraman, and a deadly plan.
Are you able to figure out what the cause of this crash was?
From Season 3 Episode 13 "Ocean Landing": Twenty minutes into the flight, the three young men rushed the cockpit and hijacked the aircraft. They demanded that the plane switch course to Australia – an 11-hour flight. It was a suicidal request – the plane had only three hours of fuel.
Captain Leo Abate had been hijacked twice before. When he was unable to convince the hijackers to change their destination, he developed a backup plan. Without their knowledge, he headed toward the tiny Comoros Islands. An airport there might be his last chance.
