Liz Garbus and Jonathan Stack co-directed this documentary, which explores life behind the bars of Louisiana's notorious maximum-security prison, Angola. Stationed on an old slave plantation, Angola is populated overwhelmingly by black inmates, and staffed by a white administration. The stories of various inmates convey the injustice and futility but also the hope that is part of prison life. A prisoner puts forth exonerating evidence to the parole board, and another speaks prior to execution.

The Angola 3: Black Panthers and the Last Slave Plantation, a film conceived and produced by scott crow and Ann Harkness; directed and edited by Jimmy O'Halligan tells the gripping story of Robert King, Herman Wallace and Albert Woodfox, men who endured solitary confinement in the United States for decades longer than other prisoners until their releases.
Targeted for being members of the Black Panther Party while inside Louisiana’s prisons, they organized other prisoners into a movement for human rights inside the walls. of Angola, a former slave plantation where institutionalized rape and murder made it known as one of the most brutal and racist prisons in the United States.

Narrated by Mumia Abu-Jamal, and featuring interviews with the Angola 3, Anita Roddick, Bo Brown, Geronimo (ji Jaga) Pratt, Malik Rahim, Yuri Kochiyama, David Hilliard, Rod Coronado, Noelle Hanrahan, Kiilu Nyasha, Marion Brown, Luis Talamantez, Rigo 23, Gail Shaw and many others.
