Malawi may not be what comes to mind when you think of kung fu movies. But four young acrobats in its capital, Lilongwe, are out to change that. The trailer for their first locally produced action flick, The Town Monger, has been generating buzz online and drawn interest from regional cable distributors. The film will premiere in Malawi this week. Lameck Masina has the story from Lilongwe.

Chizimba - Kado | A Malawian Movie.
Chizimba tells the dark and gripping tale of Kado, a man consumed by his desire to become richer than anyone else in the world. Desperate for wealth, Kado turns to a witch doctor who offers him riches through sinister, magical means. His path to fortune begins with a powerful snake that steals money from unsuspecting victims, depositing it directly at Kado’s home.
At first, life seems perfect as Kado and his wife revel in their newfound wealth. Kado even lends money to others for business ventures, masking his true motives. However, his greed knows no bounds as he targets even his closest friend, Kalulu, through his magical schemes.
But when Kalulu discovers the truth, he seeks the help of his own witch doctor, setting off a chain of confrontations. As the tension rises, Kado’s wife becomes increasingly suspicious of his actions and the strange behavior of the snake. Eventually, the family begins to unravel under the weight of secrets, mistrust, and the dangerous pact Kado made.
