Africans across the continent are marking #AfricaDay2022 in various ways.
And in terms of European political practice in Africa, all the colonized countries share similar attributes; the impact that colonization had on Africa has been described as both good and bad.
The #AfricanPopulation was not satisfied with how the Europeans imposed their governing system without proper representation, as the colonial governments did not allow popular participation, and the small political elite made all political decisions with little or little input from the African population.
Decades after, not much has changed in the continents' political landscape.
As the world celebrates Africa day, News central's Niyi Omoniyi gives an account of Africa's political journey since colonization.

Elon Musk was born in 1971 in Johannesburg, South Africa, and raised in a wealthy family under the country's racist apartheid laws. Musk's family history reveals ties to apartheid and neo-Nazi politics. We speak with Chris McGreal, reporter for The Guardian, to understand how Musk's upbringing shaped his worldview, as well as that of his South African-raised colleague Peter Thiel, a right-wing billionaire who co-founded PayPal alongside Musk. "Musk lived what can only be described as a neocolonial life," said McGreal. "If you were a white South African in that period and you had any money at all, you lived with servants at your beck and call."

South Africa's African National Congress and the Democratic Alliance parties have joined forces to form a "unity government", following last month's national elections. Dr Thapelo Tselapedi, lecturer in political and international studies at South Africa's Rhodes University, tells The World's Beverley O'Connor that the parties coming together marks a significant political moment, bringing together two former political foes.

Former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis says South Africa must not go to the US with the begging attitude but rather engage in an honest bilateral engagement as US President Donald Trump shuns weak leadership. Varoufakis has called on the international community to support South Africa as the country is experiencing pressure with the cases it lodged against Israel at the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court.

Many African countries increasingly rely on Chinese financing and support for critical infrastructure projects. But how does China's involvement in Africa intersect with local politics? Are African politicians proud of engaging with or borrowing from China? Or do they prefer to keep it quiet? Are some African politicians who publicly distance themselves from Chinese investment actually "in bed with China"?
Dr. Omolade Adunbi, Associate Professor at the Department of Afroamerican and African Studies at the University of Michigan, explains that in Nigerian politics, China occupies a complex role. Dr. Adunbi says, "Politicians do not necessarily promote their association with China, but they let Chinese projects speak for themselves. So there is hardly anywhere in Nigeria that you go to today that you don't see the visibility of China in terms of infrastructural projects [...] The first thing you see when you get to that when you land at that airport, is the presence of presence of China there. And that brings into focus the visibility of Chinese projects, so they are highly visible, you see that they are constructing or remodeling projects, from the airport, to roads, to hospitals to everywhere in the country. But here is the thing: so it's also a strategy move by Nigerian politicians by not openly associating with China. [...] They may not openly associate with China, but they are in bed with China in several other aspects.
