South Africa: Trump-expelled Ambassador Returns, Says Has "No Regrets" | Firstpost Africa | N18G

The expelled South African ambassador to the U.S., Ebrahim Rasool, returned to Cape Town on Sunday after being ousted by the Trump administration nine days ago. He was expelled for making controversial remarks about U.S. President Donald Trump. Hundreds of people gathered at the airport to welcome him. Supporters of South Africa's ruling African National Congress greeted him with songs and waving flags. Some held placards thanking Rasool for “not being a puppet.” As Rasool returned to a cheery welcome, he struck a defiant tone over the U.S. decision to expel him, declaring he had no regrets. Watch the video for more details.

If ever there was a time of apparent shifts in Africa's political landscape, it's now. From Senegal's election in March which ushered the country's youngest president, to the recent election results in Botswana and Mauritius, the message to those in leadership is loud and clear: it may no longer be business as usual. Over in Kenya, lawyer-turned-activist Morara Kebaso is challenging the status quo and demanding answers from those in authority. And more than 15,000 people gathered in Cape Town for Africa's premier connectivity event, the Africa Technology Festival.
