Kenya has a growing film industry, often referred to as Riverwood, that produces a variety of films ranging from dramas to comedies.
Here are some popular Kenyan movies that have gained recognition:

Nairobi Half-Life (2012) - Directed by David "Tosh" Gitonga, this film follows the story of a young aspiring actor who moves to Nairobi to pursue his dreams but gets caught up in a life of crime.

Supa Modo (2018) - Directed by Likarion Wainaina, this heartwarming film tells the story of a terminally ill young girl whose dream is to be a superhero. It was Kenya's submission to the 91st Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Rafiki (2018) - Directed by Wanuri Kahiu, this film explores the love between two young women in a society where their relationship is considered taboo. It was the first Kenyan film to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

Veve (2014) - Directed by Simon Mukali, this film delves into the political and economic dynamics of a small town in Kenya as various characters navigate their ambitions and struggles.

Sammy, Amos’ right hand man, has to choose between being loyal to his work and being a caring father to his 12-year-old son Kago. Maua´s Veve Farmers want to farm a union to force Amos to pay decent prices for their veve. Clint, a hedonistic wannabe documentary filmmaker meddles to far, blind of the dangers he is putting himself and others into.All are in search of purpose not knowing, that their destinies are entwined in more ways than they imagine.

When Eva (9) and her friends enter SUPASTAZ dance competition, their focus is to win the prize money of 150,000/- Unbeknownst to them, they are the target of child traffickers.

SUPASTAZ was shot in October 2021 & premiered at Prestige Cinemas in Nairobi in April 2022. The film was funded by the German government through GIZ in partnership with the DCI Anti-Human Trafficking & Child Protection Unit.

The key cast are part of Anno's One Fine Day, a children's arts program which empowers children through creative arts.
