Top 5 movies shot in Namibia:
10,000 BC (2008)
Namib Desert, Namibia
The production team of ‘10000 BC’ filmed a significant portion of the film in the Namib desert in Southern Africa to lense some pivotal sequences. Although the massive desert stretches for over 2,000 kilometers along the Atlantic coasts of Namibia, South Africa and Angola, it seems that the cast and crew members utilized the portion of the desert that is situated in Namibia.
In particular, they also taped several important scenes on the Spitzkoppe. It is a group of granite mountains located between Usakos and Swakopmund in the Namib Desert of Namibia. The pyramids, God’s palace, miniature replicas of the pyramids, the slave quarters, and even the Nile River were all constructed by the production team in Namibia. As per reports, the buildings were built in Munich and then transported to Namibia via 15 different sea containers.
Beyond Borders (2003)
Beyond Borders is a 2003 American romantic-drama film about aid workers, directed by Martin Campbell and starring Angelina Jolie, Clive Owen, Teri Polo and Kate Ashfield. The original music score was composed by James Horner.
The Ethiopia part of the movie was shot in the Namib Desert behind the Rossing mountain, about 30 km outside of SwakopmUnd. A huge refugee camp was built there. Thousands of movie extras were employed for the film. Ethiopian officials complained that a movie starring Angelina Jolie being filmed in Namibia gives a biased portrayal of their country. Ethiopia lodged a complaint with the Namibian government, saying "Beyond Borders" only shows the 1984 drought and starvation in the country and none of the progress made since then.
Flight of the Phoenix (2004)
Flight of the Phoenix was filmed on location in the Namib Desert, and was released in the United States on December 17, 2004, by 20th Century Fox. The film was a box office failure, and received generally mixed reviews; criticism was geared toward its similarity to the 1965 film, while praise related to the acting, direction and visuals.
Director John Moore scouted locations in Morocco and Australia before looking at, and quickly choosing, Namibia as the crash site. "Where most of the film takes place, was only a 20 minute-drive from the coastal town of Swakopmund." The Namib Desert location caused problems: cameras and other equipment had to be constantly cleaned of sand, and a "couple of hundred people were employed as 'dune groomers'" so that visual continuity could be maintained.
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
Mad Max: Fury Road is a 2015 Australian post-apocalyptic action film co-written, co-produced, and directed by George Miller. Namibia’s desolate yet strikingly beautiful desert landscape provided the ideal dystopian setting for the latest installment in George Miller’s Mad Max saga. In a post-apocalyptic world, Max (Tom Hardy), his companion Furiosa (Charlize Theron), and her band of fellow fugitives unite to defeat a ruthless warlord who pursues the fleeing rebels across the scorching dunes in an explosive blockbuster.
The Mummy (2017)
Principal photography on the film began on April 3, 2016, in Oxford, United Kingdom. Pinewood Studios and Shepperton Studios were also used for production, with underwater scenes shot at Pinewood. Filming on the movie concluded on July 17, 2016, in London. Production then moved to Namibia for two weeks, with principal photography wrapping up on August 13, 2016.

Namibia: A Country Divided | Free Documentary
Mumbai - A Tale of Contrasts: https://youtu.be/t6Rv1jwfGi4
Namibia has the third highest levels of income inequality in the world. 6% of the population own 70% of the land and here, the wounds of German Colonisation run deep. Between 1904 -1908, the Germans established concentration camps where the indigenous Herero and Nama people were interned. Up to 80% of them died in what Germany later recognised as the first genocide of the 20th Century. While the descendants of these victims, like Karvita, live on illegal settlements in constant fear of eviction, the descendants of these colonists continue to own most of the land and have no problem justifying their inheritance.
Most of Namibia’s vast natural resources are owned or controlled by foreigners. The diamond industry is dominated by DeBeers and the ruling Swapo party, widely seen as corrupt, is propped up by its historic ally: China. The construction and uranium industries are controlled by the Chinese and documents leaked in 2021 revealed that North Korea was illegally subcontracted to build the country’s State House.
Most of the country is sparsely populated, enabling nature to flourish. It’s home to one to one of the greatest wildlife populations in the world, including the only free roaming black rhinos. But these animals are constantly threatened by Chinese mafia while global warming is increasing desertification, threatening indigenous communities.

Otjomuise, Washington Street is home to witchcraft, which is being conducted right under the noses of the residents. The Namibian Police Force busted into the residence of an asumed witch doctor who was practising his craft in the area. The products that were discovered include penis enlargement flyers, skinned jackal, and copies of ID documents, breast enlargement cream and bottles of blood. One suspect claims that he is just visiting and has nothing to do with the crafts. The police found 800 US Dollar in his bag. It is alleged that two additional suspects are still at large. Inspector Fonsech invited the resident into the house to have a look at what was going on in their area and they were shocked.
